Big Bear Lake

Big Bear /Oak Glen Orchards
This is the best driving tour offered during Escape. The route we take offers a variety of road types, no one will be bored on this drive.

We will take Highway 18, known as
Rim of the World because of the views looking down into San Bernardino County from an elevation of 7000 ft. The Rim of the World Scenic Byway travels through some of the most naturally beautiful areas left in Southern California.

We will continue to Big Bear Lake for a lunch stop. Big Bear Lake resort area is surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest with altitude ranges from 6,750 to 9,000 ft and more than 300 days of sunshine per year. Summer temperatures average 80 degrees during the day and 45 degrees at night with winter bringing about 100 inches of snowfall. The lake is fresh water and the area is habitat for wintering bald eagles and 29 species of rare plants.

After lunch, you have the option of enjoying the shops and other points of interest in Big Bear, or continue travel to Oak Glen Orchards. This mile high altitude provides for a beautiful change of seasons and is perfect for apple orchards, which cover the slopes. Pick your own apples if you like, or have some apple pie.

From here you may head directly back to the hotel or ask your tour guide about a scenic return route.

This tour is offered Thursday and Saturday. Lunch is on your own. There is a $10 per participant fee and a limit of 100 participants per day.
